What are the minimum technical skills I need to take an online course?
Online courses are asynchronous, which means there are no scheduled meeting times. Coursework is completed based on course deadlines set by the instructor. To succeed in an online course, you should be able to do the following:
- Know how to use Blackboard to contact your instructor, to participate in discussions, to take tests, and to submit assignments.
- Create, send, and download emails, with and without attachments.
- Create, edit, and submit Word documents and other types of files, such as Excel and PowerPoint.
- Copy and paste.
- Download, locate. and install software applications and plug-ins.
Please note: some courses might also require the use of headsets and microphones or other course-specific software or peripherals.
We recommend completing the Online Course Readiness Checklist to determine if online courses at QCC are the right choice for you.
